The Thomas Kearns McCarthey Gallery is one of the foremost dealers in the United States for Russian Impressionist art. The Gallery maintains an extensive inventory of collectible works by Russia's most respected artists during the period of 1930 to 1980. The gallery carefully selects paintings that are historically significant, original in composition, interesting in form and beautiful in their depiction of the human spirit. We have been working in Russia for many years and have developed close personal relationships with many of the artists and their families. Together with our associated gallery in Russia, Dacha Art and our Russian partners, we continually have access to the best available inventory. Because of our direct connections we are able to acquire the best art at the best price to you- the collector. Many of the largest dealers of Russian art have bought all or most of their paintings from us. In addition to our Russian specialization, the TKM Gallery has been proud to work with talented artists from other countries who have the spirit of the Russian art.
The Gallery is located on historic Main Street in Park City, Utah. Our professional staff has over 30 years combined experience in the art field. We provide the professionalism, knowledge and expertise needed to help you select quality works of art for any public, private or corporate collection. We serve a wide range of collectors from the novice to the sophisticated art enthusiast. We offer payment plans and are happy to send items on approval.
A sample inventory of works by selected artists may be viewed at any time on our website or at our gallery in Park City. We are constantly receiving new works. Collectors are always welcome to drop by to browse and to discuss their collecting interests.
Meet our Staff
Stephen Justesen - Gallery Director
Stephen has been associated with Russian Art since 1991 when he made his first trip to Russia with some of the early pioneers of Russian Art. He began consulting with the gallery in 1992, becoming the Gallery Director in 2010. Stephen graduated from the University of Utah, with a B.S. in Economics and later went on to study at the University of California at Berkely and Cambridge University in England. Stephen has owned and operated several successful Zagat rated restaurants and entertainment enterprises. He brings that hospitality energy to the Gallery operations.
Stephen has made numerous visits to Russia, has personally met many of the artists represented at the gallery, and has developed an abiding love and passion for Russia and Russian art.
Robin Valline - Art Consultant
Robin has been a fine art consultant for more than thirty years. In 1979 Robin opened his first art gallery in Park City and he has been an important figure in the Park City and Utah arts scene ever since. Robin is one of the founders and former President of the Park City Gallery Association and has also served on the Board of Directors for the Kimball Art Center, and the Park City Chamber of Commerce and Visitors Bureau. Robin has also been a Juror for the Park City Arts Festival.
An artist himself, Robin studied at the University of Utah and the Banff School of Fine Arts in Canada. He has earned an exceptional reputation as a fine art restorer and excels in frame design and art presentation. Robin also has an extensive knowledge of printmaking and fine art framing.
Robin is now semi retired but amid a busy life, Robin still finds time for his passion in art. The Thomas Kearns McCarthey Gallery is very pleased to harness some of Robin's enthusiasm and knowledge for the benefit of the gallery and most of all, for our clients
Jannett Heckert- Sales Associate
Jannett joined the gallery as a person interested in art. She has always had a love for art. Growing up, she was always sketching and drawing her favorite subject, the horse and landscapes.
While her children were young, she worked in the local school district for 17 years in the beautiful mountains of Colorado. Much of her education has been in the food service business. In 1992, Jannett took a new path in what she calls “dabbling in experiences” when her husband took a job as Ski Jump Manager in Utah at the Olympic venue for the 2002 Olympic Winter Games. It was an experience of a life time, meeting athletes and traveling to Europe, all the while working different jobs of interest.
Today she is excited to be a member of the gallery, enjoyingthe opportunity and dedicated to helping each and every client achieve their individual dreams of owning art.
Susan Wythe- Sales Associate
Susan is our most recent addition to the gallery staff. Her life-long love of great artwork plus her own exceptional drawings and paintings account for her unique artistic sensitivities.
Susan earned a BA Fine Arts degree from the University of St. Thomas in Houston where her acedemic emphasis was painting. She was part of the first group in the famed Glassel School of Art, now the institution's Museum of Fine Arts School. During her studies in Houston, Susan spent extensive time with figure studies and the study of color theory.
Her first experience working in a gallery also came during her academic years in Houston where she learned framing, and how to mount an art show. She especially enjoyed the artistic environment at the gallery and working with clients. In 1990 Susan received her Master of Architecture degree from the University of Houston.
In 1996 Susan moved to Park City where she volunteered as an art instructor in local elementary schools during the time her own children were enrolled. She has since stayed active in all things involving the Park City art community where she is known for her gregarious and engaging personality.
